Family Immigration
There are two types of family immigration visas. An immediate relative immigration visa is the highest priority type and is specifically for close family members. Close family members can be:
- a spouse
- children who are being adopted
- unmarried minor children
- parents whose children are 21 or older and are U.S. citizens
The other type is family preference visas. The wait for these types of visas can be as long as 7 to 22 years depending on which country the applicant is from and other factors. Among the family members included in this group are adult children and their families as well as adult siblings and their families.
Asylum

There are certain criteria you must meet for success in obtaining this visa, but the determination of whether it is in the "national interest" to grant you a visa is somewhat subjective. With the help of an immigration attorney, you may have a better chance of obtaining this visa.
