Lake Balboa is one of the most renowned neighborhoods in San Fernando Valley. The region was previously referred to as Van Nuys until 2007 was the name changed. Lake Balboa is still considered to be ethnically diverse, being a home to people from different cultures. Surrounding Lake Balboa are other areas; on the Northern side is the Northridge; the southern part is the Sepulveda Basin, and on the Western side is Reseda. Balboa's most powerful economic institution is MGA Entertainment, a toy manufacturing company whose headquarters are in the region.

In terms of administrative duties, Lake Balboa falls under the Los Angeles City Council District 6, with only a tiny fraction of the region falling under City Council District 12. Lake Balboa is home to many recreational and outdoor parks. Some of them include; Lake Balboa Park, The Japanese Garden, Woodley Park, Sepulveda Dam Recreation Area Bike Path, and Jesse Owens mini-park.

Apart from these recreational amenities, Lake Balboa still has a lake in the Anthony C.Beilenson Park named after the district itself as Lake Balboa. This water body is large enough to accommodate a variety of recreational and economic activities such as fishing, boat riding and serve as an attraction site.

Spread behind the park on the edges of the lake is also a 1.3-mile running pathway for morning joggers and to can also serve as a romantic retreat with your spouse or spend time with your family.

Lake Balboa boasts of a populace of around 28000 residents majority of them being young professionals; this also translates into the area being politically and socially liberal. This region is mainly preferred due to its urban-suburban vibe and affordability.

A lot of private and public schools are based in Lake Balboa. Some of these are; Birmingham Community charter school, Lorne Street Elementary School, Magnolia Science Academy, and Oak Meadow School. Located in the central part of San Fernando Valley, living in Lake Balboa makes it easier to access the other areas in San Fernando.

Lake Balboa is primarily a residential neighborhood. Transport is readily available as two significant highways intercept this region, the 101 and 405, commuting to Los Angeles is simpler. Despite being a predominantly residential area, Lake Balboa still has options for social amenities such as shops, restaurants, banks, fitness, and nightlife options.
