Encino is a suburb of San Fernando Valley, offering proximity to nearby neighborhoods' glittering nightlife and culture while maintaining unprecedented affluence within its borders. It is in the central area of the Valley and is surrounded by Sepulveda Basin and Reseda on the northern wing; the Sherman Oaks borders Encino on the eastern part, and on the southern end is Brentwood. Tarzana is on the western border of Encino.

It has been speculated that Encino was named after the holm oak, the name Encino is Spanish for holm oak, and for many years the area was home to oak trees.

In terms of administrative duties, the Encino Neighbourhood Council is the primary representative of the Encino people to Los Angeles. Encino is under the Los Angeles County Board of supervisors district three and City Council District 5.

The Encino area is economically viable, with most residents working in the health care sector, social services, and other professional occupations. Schools in Encino include; Hesby Oaks Leadership Charter School, Encino Charter Elementary School, International School of Los Angeles, Los Encino School, Our Lady of Grace School, etc.

Los Encinos State Historic Park is the famous recreational center in the region with a picnic site and museum, among others. The park is big enough, occupying 5 acres of land. The Sepulveda Dam that accommodates Magnus Cricket Complex is another great place to hang out, especially for cricket fans. There's a communal Balboa Sports Complex in the area, with numerous entertainment facilities, including a basketball court, children's arena, a handball court, and a football field. The Encino Commons is a popular joint full of restaurants, boutiques, and fashion shops for eateries. It also hosts a weekly farmer's market that has been touted as one of the best in Los Angeles.

Even though Encino is not that far off from Los Angeles, it has maintained its small-town charm and cultural identity while still offering a touch of the urban lifestyle.
